A Series Designed for Responsible Officials (ROs) and Alternate Responsible Officials (AROs)

This training program equips Responsible Officials (ROs) and their teams to lead and sustain regulatory compliance for the Select Agent Program. It emphasizes clear mission alignment, accountability, proactive readiness, and transparent collaboration with inspectors, auditors, and external stakeholders. Participants will learn the regulatory foundation and roles across the organization—from ROs and principal investigators to biosafety officers and research staff—developing and communicating unit-level safety and compliance objectives to promote safer decision-making aligned with regulatory requirements. The curriculum covers internal audits and corrective action, guiding attendees to plan and conduct reviews, present findings, verify action closures, track residual risk, and drive continuous improvement to reduce regulatory exposure.

Additionally, the program strengthens personnel reliability, incident reporting, and documentation. It covers background checks, access approvals, ongoing suitability assessments, and robust processes for reporting theft, loss, releases, and near-misses. Participants will optimize form-based documentation (e.g., Form 3) and file management for timely, accurate records and rapid incident reporting. The training fosters inspection readiness and a culture of continuous improvement by identifying citation themes, implementing corrective action plans, and sustaining compliance, including practical, scalable solutions for BMBL-related biosafety and containment challenges.

Course tuition is $1,500.00 USD and includes access to the Safer Behaviors Training Platform, course materials, course instruction, mentoring sessions, and certificates of program completion.
